Historically, in Somalia, during periods of draught and hunger, the poorer tribes used to be able to get assistance and food from the wealthier ones.  Now that the country is divided along religious lines between Islamic and Christian traditions, no one is providing that emergency aid.

 Can anyone please tell me how any of this is a reflection of God of Allah?

During the past few days a very small mouse has been making his presence known in more and more blatant ways. Last night, he poked his/her head around a bowl sitting on a sideboard, not six feet from my desk. It was as if he/she wanted to see if I was going to be friendly. The mouse just sat there and we looked directly at one and other.

 My Buddhist friends will be pleased to know I cannot imagine killing it.

I wonder if my landlord, who lives in the same building will see it the same way?

During an “off the record” interview with a reporter, a number of students at Penn State University said they felt that the decision to fire Joe Paterno and the University President were the right decisions and were afraid to say so for fear of being beaten up by fellow students.

I wonder where young people would have learned that speaking your mind now often comes with being “attached” in one way or another?

I’m told that loving 6.9 billion people is ridiculous and that nobody can do it or those that say they can are charlatans.

I wonder why it is that everyone I know who has experienced this capacity feel a sense of lightness and connectedness that is nothing short of other-worldly?

The Political Parties in the United States speak to each other and the individuals in the opposition party as if they were very stupid, not deserving of respect and as if they wish they didn’t exist.

I wonder just how fragile the Democracy really is?

There is a powerful storm headed up the eastern seaboard of the United States and there was an earthquake near Washington, D.C. earlier last week.

It crosses my mind from time to time that Mother Nature has a point of view regarding how significant we think we are.
