John Lennon’s song was about a World That Works for Everyone.
If you personally believe it is not possible to create, what role have you just assumed?
It seems to me, especially of late, that the human mind has two distinct functions.
1. The first is as a computer, analyst, figurer, planner, constructive support to the human unit to which it is attached.
2. The second is one of stewing (as in a pot bubbling on a stove) in our own juices or judging others, creator of drama, panderer to irresponsible communication, action and general malcontent.
Can you name one thing constructive that comes when we use if for the purposes in # 2?
Whenever you are in doubt or the self becomes too much with you, try the following expedient: Recall the face of the poorest and most helpless person you have ever seen and ask yourself if the step you are about to take will be of any use to her or him.
Then (perhaps, as Mahatma Gandhi suggests) you will find your doubts and your self melting away.
