Any School Can Be Exceptional
Through Our Hands (Lives of Value and Purpose, What Each of Us Can Do in Public Education) is a collection of one hundred and twenty-eight questions I could think of that might have something to do with how this turns out. Those of you in other institutions like businesses, government and non-profits can simply substitute the right words.
The purpose of school is to assist young people in creating meaningful, productive, joyous, contributory lives and developing the tools necessary to produce that result – lives free of abuse, violence and destruction – lives that are of use, of value, of purpose and accomplishment. No amount of technical or factual data alone can produce that result. Only young people, who grow up knowing that some one cares about them, that their lives matter and that they are in charge, capable of making good choices, can achieve this. Tonight I went to We’re The Millers, a movie that young Matt Schweppe has a small part in. The cast includes Jennifer Aniston, Jason Sudeikis and Emma Roberts and Matt is named as the cast scrolls down the screen.
The accomplishment of tangible results is second only to the unconditional love of a human being in development of equanimity.
Any individual or institution that claims to have “the only pathway or access” to God has absolutely nothing to do with God at all. There are different thoughts, ideas, beliefs and pathways. Set up your own, love it and leave all the rest of the people alone. The idea of a “religious” war by the very nature of it has nothing to do with God, Allah, the Buddha. It is only a way for fearful people to feed their insecurity.
