The current, global “economic crisis” is being driven by two things that each of us control completely, greed and fear. Greed and policies driven by it created the problem, fear perpetuates it. I happen to believe in capitalism, the rights of the individuals and freedom. We will not be able to have any of these things if we do not “police” ourselves.
Our money is not who we are. The lack of money may bring difficult circumstances, it does not mean that we need to become less caring or myopically self-centered in order to survive. A friend recently sent me a picture of a dog saved from a burning house by a fireman, previously unknown to the dog. The dog sat quietly after rescue for half an hour, about fifty feet from where the firemen finally chose to sit and rest. The dog raced over and kissed (think licked) him on the nose.
I wonder what that says about the ability of animals to feel? Think? Remember?
A few nights ago I saw a story about an Air Force pilot from WWII whose body was found after being missing for sixty-four years.
I wonder why death sometimes seems to produce more fear and sadness than gratitude for life?
